What kind of computer driver is needed for an internet connection?
Posted by: kk : Category: Computer Question Answers
I recently had to do a system restore on my laptop, basically deleting everything and re-installing the operating system. Since then, I have not been able to connect to the internet. After talking to a few technicians over the phone, I’m pretty sure my problem is that I’m missing the necessary driver for an internet connection. What driver do I need to install on my computer?
And if you don’t think it’s a problem with the drivers, other theories would be appreciated as well.
If it helps, my computer is a Gateway notebook, model MX6426.

I have a Dell, and I know that on mine there is a physical on and off switch on the side of it to disable and enable internet access. I’m sure you’ve looked into that possibility, but I thought I’d throw it out there. Other things I would do would be to try and physically connect it to the internet with a LAN wire direct from the modem, just to see if it’s working. You should look into what kind of modem is inside your laptop, and if that is in the list of parts that you bought the laptop with, this will help you figure out what the driver might be. A manufacturer would help if not also the model.

There are so many possible problem with your laptop.
But first check if all your system hardware are installed correctly.
1. If you found your modem or LAN Card not properly installed, please install it using your system cd.
2. If all are installed correctly, check whether you have an active internet subscription.
3. If you have one, check whether you are connecting through a wireless network. If you do, check your password, the system will erase the password on your network connection during your system restore.
4. If you have corrected the password on your network and you cannot connect to the internet, check your browser. It might not be working properly.

If you can’t find the right drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it. Perform a free driver scan at:
