What is the best computer that I can buy? What is good and where can I find information?

I am looking at trying to buy in a gaming computer. I generally play games from steam such as the half life series and am starting to get into left 4 dead. I want a computer that can easily play these games and also Microsoft Flight simulator.
I know a few things about computers but I have not had much experience buying before. I would be thankful for any help.

alienware is pricey but is highly regarded as one of the best PC gaming machines around.
if you are buying online i recommend checking out newegg.com

I recommend doing some research and building your own computer. Heck, I amped out a normal HP pavilion that cost me $300 and it still runs better than some $2000 gaming computers! If you want some ideas my specs are:
-Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @2.00 GHz
-3.00 GB Ram
Nividia GeForce GTX 260
-Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit
