Question by overtak3n: What happens if a computer power supply is less watts than needed when the computer is under load?
Will the computer restart, freeze, blue screen, any type of screen, etc? If it gives a screen what will it say on the screen?

Just curious because my PC freezes once in a while.

Anything can happen including complete failure of the power supply.

  1. Bjorn Says:

Freezes, errors, glitches and corrupt data can all happen if you are running a system with a weak PSU.

An underpowered system will freeze, restart, or just plain crash, with or without a blue screen. If you continue to use an insufficient power supply and repeatedly max it to the point of a freeze or crash, it will eventually fail and quite possibly take the motherboard and other components with it.
