What computer would be good for a recording studio?
Question by Austin B: What computer would be good for a recording studio?
I have a small recording studio in my home, and I need help on purchasing a computer (most likely a laptop) for it. Obviously, it would need a really good sound card. But i’m not sure exactly what i should get. Can someone help me out?

If you are a serious audio techie who want the best PC configuration for a home audio/music studio:
Sound blaster X-Fi Elite Pro
Intel Core-2 Quad (Any speed should be ok)
Intel DX38BT motherboard (supports DDR3 RAM and six SATA ports, so that u can connect multiple HDDs)
Any nVidia graphics card with dual monitor support (by adding this, you will make sure your audio application utilizes maximum of available RAM. Moreover, DX38BT doesn’t have integrated graphics.)
350 GB SATA Hard drive. One more hard drive (for backup) is better.
3GB of DDR3 RAM
SATA DVD Drive
Two 19″ TFT screens
If u r looking for a medium/low budget, go for:
Sound blaster X-Fi Elite Pro
Core-2 Quad or Core-2 Duo (any available speed)
Intel DG45ID motherboard
3GB DDR2 RAM
350GB HDD
SATA DVD drive
19″ TFT
If u r looking for a laptop, go for any Dell/Sony with 3GB RAM/300GB HDD and add a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook.
Hope this helps…

Hey,
You are a little confused. A soundcard has nothing to do with Recording music. Unless you decide to go that route, which is not a good route at all.
If you are planning on running a studio though, then a soundcard simply won’t cut it.
You’ll run your music through a Digital Mixer or Audio Interface that plugs into your computer through USB or Firewire and not the soundcard! And then you run your speakers / monitors through the Mixer.
So again, soundcard is nothing.
Get a solid Quad Core processor with all the RAM you can get your hands on. RAM is KEY in music recording and processing. And get hard drives with SATA.
