What are some reasons a computer would go slowly after hibernating?

My dad leaves his computer on all the time so the computer goes to sleep at night when hes not using it. But when he starts it up again in the morning the computer goes unbelievably slow unless he shuts it down and starts it up again.
Is there a reason for this?

hibernation takes up some memory sounds like it needs more memory ..
