If you find puppets creepy (and I do), this is the game for you. The storyline is simple: Joyville becomes desolate after a big fire, and then citizens beginning disappearing. The task is finding the latest missing person, a young boy.
It’s the typical HOG where you investigate various buildings and alternate between solving puzzles and collecting inventory from hidden object scenes. I prefer this type of HOG where you actually do something with some of the objects you collect. The mini puzzles are pretty interesting and not impossible to figure out and solve. A puzzle involving stained glass patterns is unique and there’s a slide puzzle with striking graphics involving masks.
Again there is more of a creep than a scare factor to this game. The only reason to avoid it is if you find rats disturbing, as they seem to permeate every scene. I was particularly grossed out when in one scene a rat is shown dragging one of the puppet heads across the floor. EEK!

I love this game. The puppets create a sense of emotion that is difficult to describe, the music is captivating, and the objects are not so hard to find that you feel you’ll go blind. I did find the puzzles to be super simple, so not much of a challenge there. But this game is not about challenging the brain. It’s about enjoying a creepy story that has great artwork and the ability to both scare you and enchant you at the same time. It’s like reading a really good book with great illustrations.

What a beautiful game! Not only nice to look at, but fun to play as well with the added bonus of a creepy, “spidery” puppet who darted in and out of the scene. The hidden objects were fairly easy to find and the puzzles did not require a degree in physics to solve. I’m looking forward to the second installment.

The Hidden Object puzzles are pretty easy in this game. But forget about the mini-puzzles unless you’re mechanically inclined. At first my boyfriend helped me with the mini-puzzles but even with his help, I just gave up. And you also have to remember what room you’ve been in and how to get out and how to return to use one of the tools. But the scenes are beautiful – I’ll give them credit for that.
