I had the same problem. I resinstalled windows and it worked fine for a few days but then it stopped working all together. Maybe a hardware issue like overheating or broken/damaged components.

If you reinstall Windows XP, it gets rid of all viruses because it’s a new, fresh hard drive and it deletes anything on it when you reinstall. So that’s not the problem. It must be a hardware issue. How old is your computer? If it is 3+ years, it may be time to get a new computer. But, you could bring it to Best Buy for the Geek Squad to look at it, or you could just bring it to a local computer shop to see what they think. If you recently purchased it, you could bring it back to the place where you got it and (hopefully) get a refund.

i had the same problem a while ago. it was the simplest thing ever. the power button on this old dell tower was sticking, so i disassembled and lubricated the power switch assembly and it worked fine.

    Try this:
Click on start – run and then enter :
    shutdown -a

This will stop the shutdown. U might have a virus that came back because u backed up some stuff and used it during the reinstall.
Or ur os is hacked and has some embedded virus.

Could also be the computer is overheating. Is the fan working, is the heat sink in the cpu fixed properly?
