Question by Lono: How to pick the best motherboard for the computer you are building?
I am planning on building a computer – but I feel on my last two computers I built that my motherboard limited the efficency of the other components I used.

I am knowledgable about all computer hardware except how to pick the best mobo for the job.

Does anyone know if there is a website or somesuch to help show how to pick the best motherboard for the computer you are building?

Any help would eb greatly appreciated!

You’ll need to spend at least a $ 100 for a good board.
Get a 780i or above (for Nvida Video) and a
p35 to x48 for (ATI Video Cards).
Make sure it has 2-3 PCI Express slots and 2-3 PCI slots.
You also want at least 4 Slots for Ram.

hey its depends upon your processor. You just go to your processor manufacturer website and see which motherboards will support for your processor, then select a best and latest motherboard.

these days there are so many mobo’s that after buying the best one the next day u’ll come across another one which is better.
So there’s no website that will let u decide the best mobo for ur pc.
but if u would have listed what are the components u’ll put in ur pc i would have assisted u with the same..
but guessing u’ll need 4 DIMM(RAM)ports a core 2 duo or quad core processor sata dvd and hd drives the best mobo can be the Intel DG33FB . u just see these specs in ur mobo-
    Make sure it supports-
    1333Mhz FSB
    SATA 1 at least
    PCI-E X16 (2 if u wish to put 2GPU’s)
    PCI conventional at least 2-3
Basically people first decide the mobo and then design the rest of the system .
But i guess doing it this way’s is also gud..
Even i was confused when i came here the first time.
But now since i’ve researched upon every component of a pc i can make out thing well.
So ,i guess if u too surf google for sites that tell ppl about such things,u’ll understand everything and make probabally the best pc for urself.

To best answer your question, I would prefer a little more information (ie Processor brand, specific qualities you want, etc).

Based on what you’ve said, I would recommend visiting Newegg.com for whatever you buy. They have a huge selection and pretty good prices.

I recommend sticking with an Intel processor, just because they have been doing so well, as far as quality and speed vs price. Here are some recommended motherboards and what I type of computer they would be best suited for…

    Gaming (under $ 200)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131296

This motherboard supports up to 16GB of RAM, giving you plenty of room to grow. It also has two PCI Express x 16 2.0 slots for up to two graphics cards. ASUS is a great brand name, and this board is a great deal.

    Home Theater PC(under $ 150)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131237

This motherboard has built in HDMI out, which is great for a HTPC. It also has integrated audio and video, which cuts down on size and power draw. Its is in microATX form, so you can fit it into a small case. Again, it is an ASUS board because of their repuation for high quality parts.

Basic use PC (under $ 75)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128078

This motherboad has all the basics at the very best price. Though it is not an ASUS, the brand I chose here is still high quality. Gigabyte borad are genally seen as one of the best “bang for the buck” boards out there. This set up has integrated audio and video chipsets to help keep costs down.

I hope this helps. Based on what you said, I would recommend these three boards. If you need any more help, feel free to email me.
