How do I keep my new computer from deleting the i-tunes I downloaded from my old computer?

I used to download the music/movies for my i-pod on a desktop at my house. Now I have moved out and use a completely different computer. If I try to download i-tunes from my new computer, won’t it erase everything I’ve previously downloaded? How do I keep this from happening? People don’t keep the same computer FOREVER.

Itunes has a build-in backup tool in the file menu, go to File than select backup to disk.
