Excellent all-purpose laptop,
There are so many attributes to a laptop that is impractical to capture all of them here. I’ll try to stick to the highlights and differentiators.
I’ve owned this laptop for only a couple of weeks now, so no long-term comments on quality and reliability.
I had one issue early on with the Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security that came bundled with the system. It has serious reliability and performance issues, and at one point caused the system to temporarily lose its boot image (!) which I was able to readily restore from the recovery DVD. I would strongly recommend NOT using the Trend Micro but instead installing your own favorite antivirus software (for me, Norton Internet Security).
Battery life is excellent, appears to be 5-6 hours at minimum, as advertised.
Very little documentation and no media ships with the system. You have to run a program to create your own recovery DVD’s – this takes a few hours and requires 4 DVD-R’s or DVD+R’s. It’s a good thing I did this early, as mentioned above.
Setup is a snap using the standard Windows 7 install procedure. This is our first Windows 7 computer and it was a breeze. Still adapting to some of the features, but nothing objectionable so far.
This comes with the second generation Intel Core i5-2410 CPU with built-in HD 3000 graphics. This CPU is about 25% faster with about 3x faster graphics compared to first generation Core i5, in my opinion totally worth it.
Some people don’t like the “chiclet” keyboard, an unfortunate term as it brings to mind memories of the awful IBM PC junior. All that “chiclet” means is that keys are separated by a plastic web between them. I like this feature because it is more difficult for crumbs and dust to get down into the keyboard than it is on a conventional keyboard where large gaps open up as keys are pressed. Since this laptop lives near our kitchen and is used by the whole family, this is a bonus. The keys are plenty responsive and I am a very fast typist – frankly I don’t know what people are complaining about.
Asus reliability has been reported elsewhere to be among the best – we’re crossing our fingers.
Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Best Laptop for the Price,
I bought this laptop because I believe that it was the best for my needs and I’ll try to describe what type of consumer it would fit best. I needed a laptop that would stay at home most of the time but I would take to the library or class every once in a while. I am not a gamer or photo/video editor so the integrated graphics were perfect for my needs. Another reason I bought this laptop was because of the great battery life which lasts about 6hrs and during that time the laptop never became warm.
The screen is bright and colorful and although a higher resolution would’ve been nice, budget laptops rarely have high resolution screens. The only bad part about the screen is that it is a little bit too glossy and can make it hard to see sometimes. The chiclet style keyboard is very comfortable to type on and feels sturdy as does the rest of the laptop which shows high quality not seen in laptops in this budget. The trackpad is large and easy to use but the 2 finger scrolling is not as refined as I would like it to be. The speakers sound fine but as is the case with most laptops they are nothing special. There also isn’t a lot of bloatware, which is nice.
Besides great performance, long battery life, and head turning design, this laptop comes with the best warranty in the business which includes 2 years standard warranty and 1 year accidental damage warranty. This was another reason I went with ASUS rather than Dell or HP which had similarly priced machines but are known for having horrible reliability.
Pros:
-Fast core i5 sandy bridge processor
-Durable and beautiful design
-Good battery life (6hrs)
-Extended Warranty
Cons:
-Screen is too glossy but still looks fine unless you’re outside in the sun
-integrated graphics
Conclusion: I would recommend this laptop to anyone who is not interested in gaming or other graphics heavy tasks. It strikes the perfect balance between great performance and battery life and is backed by perhaps the most reliable laptop maker.

Great laptop,
I have had this laptop for a little more than a month and have had no issued at all. Previously I have had HP’s and Dells and both have had their issues, HP’s more. So wanted to try a different brand. Also looked into a mac, but I am a windows person and macs are much more money. The laptop is fast, battery life is good, it has plenty of disk space and RAM for my needs which is basic computing (internet, email, syncing phones etc. and your basic photo’s and video editing). Really impressed with the battery life, its between 5-6 hours as advertised. Also it does not get hot! even after hours of use the laptop bottom stays nice and cool. The only feature I wish it had was the back-lit keyboard.
The hard drive is split up into 2 (C: drive and D: drive), your system files are all on your C: drive and you can keep all your data on your D: drive. Win7 has ‘libraries’ for photos, music etc. so you can keep all your data on the D: drive and its a breeze to access and back it onto an external drive.
